About Me

    My name is Rick Hess. I, along with my wife live in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania that is located in the south-central region of the state. More than 30 years ago I was introduced to the wild turkey by my father and have enjoyed watching, photographing and hunting this grand bird ever since.

    In the summer of 2001 I began crafting "sawn and glued" and "hewn out double sided" box calls as well as "hewn out longboxes" (my personal favorite.)

    As my calls began accounting for more and more harvests; I was encouraged to try making other types of friction calls. As a result, along with my box calls, I now offer slate, glass and scratchbox calls.

    In December of 2002 I was honored by being included on the "Custom Calls Online" website. One of the most enjoyable aspects of my call making experiences has been listening to the "in the field" accounts from hunters who have been using my calls. I’m also very grateful to the many callmakers who have graciously taken time to answer my questions, give advice and offer words of encouragement.

    If you decide to have me make you a call, please be assured that I will not part with a call that I wouldn’t personally hunt with myself. If for some reason you aren’t completely satisfied with your call just let me know and I will do my best to make it right. If I am unable to do so, I’ll refund your money.
